Title

Eggs Different Mass

Problem Scenario

what is the mass difference in a baked and boiled egg?

Broad Question

How do chicks breathe in its shells?

Specific Question

Will eggs cooked in air gain more mass than eggs cooked in water?

Hypothesis

I think the baked egg will have less mass then the boiled egg

Variables

Independent Variable:

Cooking method.

Dependent Variable:

Measure water mass.

Variables That Need To Be Controlled:

Same type of egg, same time cooked.

Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation

General Plan

I will bake 1 egg in an oven, then boil another egg, mass them, and see which one has more mass.

Potential Problems And Solutions

Excess pressure might cause the egg to explode..

Safety Or Environmental Concerns

Will need to wear safety glasses

Detailed Procedure

1. I will get the eggs
2. I will put one egg in the science room oven
3. I will boil the other egg
4. I will mass both eggs
5. I will compare the different masses.

Results

The hard boiled egg has more mass then the baked egg. The first 2 trials there was no difference, but the 3rd trial made a little difference. The boiled egg has increased by .102, and the baked egg has lost .25

Conclusion

Based on my Data, I accept my hypothesis because as you can see the boiled egg had more mass than the baked egg. My original Hypothesis was that the boiled egg WOULD weigh more then the baked and it is right. I put both temperatures to 60% The first time/trial it was 10 min. the second trial was 30 min. and my third/last trial was 45 min. the mass in the boiled egg increased as the baked egg decreased, but it only made a different mass by VERY little amount.

Discussion

As I was doing this project I realized that it takes longer then just 45 min to change. Then when I put in the first egg, I
accidently dropped it while trying to put it in the oven, so I had to get another egg and try again. I had help putting the
egg into the boiling water as I do the egg in the oven so it can be timed right. I wanted to keep the egg a little longer
but I didn't have enough time to.

Anyone who is a Nature lover or an Animal lover would like to do this kind of project.

Abstract

The mass only changed very little amount, the boiled egg increased and the baked egg decreased.
